Brockton, MA : Child, 4, injured in a crash on North Main Street Saturday morning, October 22, 2016

A young girl was injured when the car she was in struck a pole on North Main Street Saturday morning, police said.

A Brockton police officer was flagged down by a motorist, about 11:18 a.m., who notified him of a “really bad” crash up the street.

Officers found a sedan, which sustained extensive front-end damage, against a utility pole, near 1063 North Main St., which is near the intersection with Frankton Avenue. The officers immediately requested an ambulance for an injured child.

“The operator of the motor vehicle stated that she was traveling north on North Main, speaking to her daughter in the backseat,” Brockton police Lt. William Hallisey said. “When she turned to look at her daughter, she crashed into the pole.”

The girl, who is 4 years old, could be seen in the back of an ambulance, conscious, but wearing a neck brace. Paramedics took a doll and pair of boots from the car to the girl in the ambulance.

The girl was taken to Boston Medical Center with an unknown extent of injuries.

No supervisor or reconstruction team was requested to the scene, meaning the injuries weren’t life-threatening, Hallisey said.
