Charleston, West Virginia
A bus carrying football players from an Ohio high school wrecked near Wheeling Thursday afternoon.
About 16 football players from Buckeye Local High School in Rayland, Ohio, were taken to Wheeling Hospital following an incident on W.Va. 88, according to Gregg Warren, spokesman for the hospital.
At about 4 p.m., the bus reportedly went over a hillside and struck a tree.
Of about 40 students on the bus, 16 were brought to Wheeling Hospital with injuries ranging from severe to minor. One student was admitted to the hospital and the spokesman said there was a possibility two more might be. At least one other student was taken to another area hospital, he said.
The students had either gone to or were returning from watching a pre-season West Liberty University football game, Warren said.
