A man was seriously injured when he crashed while fleeing Solano County sheriff's deputies in Vallejo early Sunday morning, according to the sheriff's office.

The 28-year-old Vallejo man was spotted in a white Dodge Charger speeding at more than 100 mph on westbound Interstate Highway 80 just before 3 a.m., sheriff's officials said.

When a deputy tried to pull the driver over, he initially pulled onto the right shoulder but then sped away. The deputy chased after the Charger but lost it near state Highway 37.

Another deputy arriving to help saw the car get off the highway on Fairgrounds Drive. He then saw the Charger had crashed into a wall and a tree on Fairgrounds Drive, sheriff's officials said.

The driver, whose name has not been released, was taken to a trauma center with major injuries. Two passengers, a 28-year-old Vallejo man and a 28-year-old Richmond man, were uninjured and briefly detained.

A deputy suffered minor injuries while helping the driver, sheriff's officials said.

Investigators have not determined why the driver fled and are still looking into whether alcohol or drugs played a factor.
