Greenville, NC : Tanker truck crashes, road closed on Monday, March 20th 2017
An 18-wheeler tanker-truck crashed on Staton Mill Road northeast of Greenville on Monday evening, causing law enforcement officials to close the road until the wreckage could be cleared.
The truck was going north and had just passed Sweet Gum Grove Church Road in Minnie Bert when it appeared to go off the road to the right on a curve and tip over on its left side.
The driver was injured and transported to Vidant Medical Center for treatment.
N.C. Highway Patrol troopers kept people away from the scene, saying it was too dangerous to be close to it. At least seven troopers and Pitt County Emergency Management responded. A Pitt County deputy blocked the road at Sweet Gum Grove Church Road, detouring traffic from the scene.
