Hayfield,VI : 56-year-old killed in U.S. 50 crash on June, Monday 12th 2017
A 56-year-old man was killed Monday afternoon after he lost control of his moped on Northwestern Pike (U.S. 50) in Frederick County, according to authorities.
The victim’s name isn’t being released pending notification of next of kin, Virginia State Police Sgt. F.L. Tyler said. He was not a local resident, Tyler confirmed.
The crash occurred just before 1:40 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Northwestern Pike, about two-tenths of a mile west of Hayfield Road (Route 600). The victim was taken to Winchester Medical Center, where he died at approximately 2:20 p.m., Tyler said.
Trooper J.T. Hutchinson is investigating the crash. He was assisted at the scene by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and Frederick County Fire and Rescue officials.
This is the fifth fatality to occur on Frederick County roads since April 1 and the second motorcycle/moped death. On April 18, a 56-year-old Missouri man was killed on Northwestern Pike when his motorcycle was hit by a tractor-trailer.
