Ravenna, OH : No one seriously injured after a tanker crash and caught fire on State Route 5 in Portage County on Sunday, Nov 22, 2015

State Route 5 in Portage County is closed after a tanker crashed and then caught fire, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports.

The OSP reports that a tractor-trailer loaded with 8,000 gallons of octane gasoline drove off the right side of state Route 5 just after 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

The truck hit a guardrail, rolled over and the tank ripped open, spilling the fuel. The fuel ignited "immediately," the OSP reports.

The 39-year-old driver broke out the windshield and escaped the cab of the truck.

No one was seriously injured in the crash, but it took more than an hour for fire crews to extinguish the fire. The road is expected to stay closed through Sunday night—and possibly for a few days—due to damage to the road.

The driver was cited for failure to control, but the OSP notes that neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor.

The Ohio Department of Transportation recommends that drivers detour via state Route 14 and Interstate 76.
