Roanoke, VA : A Bassett woman died on Tuesday, July 25, 2017
A Bassett woman died Tuesday after she drove in front of a tractor-trailer at a U.S. 220 intersection in Franklin County, according to a state police news release.
A 1987 Jeep Wrangler westbound on Fork Mountain Road failed to stop at a stop sign at about 2:19 p.m., police said. The Jeep entered U.S. 220 and drove into the path of an oncoming 2011 Volvo tractor-trailer. The Jeep overturned during the collision and came to rest on the road’s shoulder.
The Jeep’s driver, 68-year-old Angela Martin, died at the scene. She was wearing the lap belt, but not the shoulder belt, according to the news release. A 7-year-old child in the Jeep was uninjured.
The tractor-trailer’s driver, 65-year-old Ralph Elio of North Babylon, New York, was uninjured. No charges are expected.
