Clive, UT : Five people injured after a wrong-way crash on I-80 in Tooele County on Sunday, February 14, 2016
A family of four and an elderly man were hospitalized Sunday after one motorist drove on the wrong side of the freeway.
An 80-year-old man driving a small pickup truck was traveling east in the westbound lanes on I-80 about 4:45 p.m. when he struck a westbound passenger car and rolled off the freeway, the Utah Highway Patrol reported.
The passenger car was occupied by a family of two adults and two children. Troopers did not report their ages.
The driver of the passenger vehicle was flown by medical helicopter to a Salt Lake area hospital in serious condition but his injuries were not considered to be life-threatening, according to the UHP.
The driver of the pickup truck was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The other passengers were taken to the hospital out of precaution with minor injuries.
Troopers suspect the driver of the pickup truck may have been experiencing a medical condition that caused him to become disoriented.
