St. Charles County, MO : Ten students injuries in bus crash on eastbound Highway 94 near Wolfrum Road on Thursday afternoon, October 27, 2016

Highway 94 was temporarily closed after a school bus accident Thursday afternoon on eastbound Highway 94 left several children with minor injuries, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

The accident happened at 4:19 p.m. when a school bus ran into the back of an SUV near Wolfrum Road, patrol spokesman Sgt. Al Nothum said.

The bus carried children who are students at Independence Elementary School in Weldon Spring, which is in the Francis Howell School District. In a letter to parents, school principal Emily Pavia said 30 students were on the bus at the time; paramedics took 10 students with minor injuries to hospitals.

Nothum said the driver of the school bus was not injured but the driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Eastbound Highway 94 was closed while an inspection team dealt with the collision. Motorists were asked to avoid the area.

All lanes of the highway were reopened by 7:20 p.m. Thursday.
