North Port, FL : Teenage motorcycle rider dies in crash on the Charlotte/Sarasota county line on Monday night, April 18, 2016
A 19-year-old motorcycle rider was killed in a crash with a vehicle driven by another teenager at Hillsborough and Toledo Blade Boulevard, on the Charlotte/Sarasota county line, Monday night, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
According to the FHP, A Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Joshua Robinson, 19, of Port Charlotte was stopped facing south at about 8:54 p.m. in the left turn lane of Toledo Blade Boulevard at Hillsborough Boulevard when it began to make a left turn onto Hillsborough directly in front of a Suzuki motorcycle driven north on Toledo Blade by Sean Mulvey, 19, of North Port, FHP says.
Mulvey began to brake and overturned, FHP reports, the bike continued traveling north while overturning and the passenger side of the Chevrolet was struck by the bike. The Chevrolet rotated clockwise and came to rest facing southwest in the intersection, FHP reports, while the motorcycle came to rest on its right side facing west in the intersection.
Mulvey was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP. He was wearing a helmet. Robinson, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured, FHP says. There were three passengers in the Chevrolet, FHP reports: Hannah Robinson, 15, of Port Charlotte, who was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured; Bruce Cuthbert, 17, of North Port, who was not wearing a seatbelt and received minor injuries; and Sofia Reilly, 16, of Port Charlotte, who was not wearing a seatbelt and received minor injuries. Both of the injured passengers were taken to a hospital.
The crash is under investigation, FHP says.
