Springfield,TN : Tennessee Highway Patrol called to investigate deadly Springfield crash on September, Sunday 10th 2017
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has been asked to reconstruct a deadly crash that happened Sunday on Cheatham Street in Springfield.
Springfield Police were called to the scene, at 711 Cheatham Street, just before 8:45 p.m.
Officers were advised that the vehicle, a red Ford Crown Victoria, was fully engulfed in flames, according to a media release from Springfield Police issued Monday morning.
Witnesses at the scene told police that the car had been travelling north bound on Cheatham Street from the area of 15th Avenue West at a very high rate of speed when it failed to stop at Central Avenue and crossed the railroad tracks at 10th Avenue West, the release said.
“Sparks could be seen as the vehicle went over the tracks,” the release said.
The vehicle then side-swiped a light pole at Ninth Avenue before it veered off the road at 711 Cheatham Street, hit a tree and caught fire, the release noted.
The driver of the car, identified as Dezrick Shannon, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
