OCALA, FL : Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Friday, November, 17th 2017
Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday at the intersection of US 441 and US 27 in Ocala. One person had life-threatening injuries, according to officials with the Ocala Police Department.
Capt. Clayton Anderson with Ocala Fire Rescue said emergency personnel had to use Jaws of Life equipment to remove the roof and two doors of a car in order to rescue two women trapped inside. He said it took about 30 minutes to get them out. The vehicle was on its side, wedged against a palm tree, near a concrete utility pole.
An OPD officer at the scene said a U-Haul truck, which was hauling a flatbed trailer with a piece of equipment generally known as a “bobcat” on it, was traveling south on US 441. A BMW was traveling north on the same road. The driver of the car turned left onto US 27, into the path of the truck, the officer said. The vehicles collided and came to rest near an auto dealer business on the southwest corner.
Police officials said the crash occurred at 2:14 p.m.
Anderson said to get the women from the car, firefighters had to cut the driver and passenger doors, and the car’s roof. He said both patients were taken from the car at 2:44 p.m.
The driver of the U-Haul had minor injuries. All three people were taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center. As of late Friday afternoon, officials had not released their names.
