GULFPORT, MS : 8-year-old who died in Gulfport wreck identified - WMC Action News 5 - Memphis, Tennessee on Saturday, 24th September 2016
Police say a child injured in a wreck Saturday night in Gulfport has died and the driver of the vehicle is now facing multiple charges.
The wreck happened on Highway 49 near the intersection of Orange Grove Road. Gulfport Police say a Dodge Charger was traveling southbound on the highway when a Dodge Caravan turned in front of the Charger, causing a collision. The Caravan then spun and overturned.
The minivan's driver and five passengers, which included multiple children, were transported to Garden Park Hospital with injuries.
According to the Harrison County Coroner, Jadyn Tyson, 8, of Gulfport, was partially ejected from one of the vehicles during the wreck. He died shortly after at Garden Park Hospital from blunt force trauma to the head, chest, and extremities.
Police say after investigating the wreck, they learned that all of the occupants of the Caravan, including the children, were unrestrained when the accident occurred. The vehicle's driver also did not have a valid driver license. Citations were issued to the driver for no driver's license, running a red light, no proof of insurance, seat belt violations, possession of marijuana, and driving under the influence.
