NEW DIGGINGS TOWNSHIP, WI : Authorities said the driver in a fatal crash on Saturday, June 17, 2017
Authorities said the driver in a fatal crash Saturday morning in Lafayette County was intoxicated at the time of the wreck.
Mateo Fuentes Flores, 22, of Darlington, was arrested and is awaiting a court appearance on charges on operating while intoxicated, knowingly operating while revoked causing death and homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, according to a Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department press release.
Authorities were called to the crash scene at 3:24 a.m.
Deputies said Flores was driving east on Wisconsin 11 just east of the intersection with Lafayette County I when his vehicle left the road and struck a guardrail. The vehicle then crossed three lanes of traffic and overturned.
Patricio Soto-Alarcon, 35, of Darlington, was in the front seat, according to the release. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office.
Passenger Hiliberto Fuentes Cervantes, 22, of Darlington, and Flores were transported to Southwest Health in Platteville for treatment of minor injuries, according to the release.
The crash remains under investigation. It is the second motor vehicle fatality of 2017 in the county, according to the release.
