Enumclaw,WA : Family of 4-year-old killed in crash speaks out on distracted driving on November, Wednesday 8th 2017

The 4-year-old was in his car seat last Wednesday around 9 a.m. as him mother drove him north on Highway 169 near Enumclaw. They slowed to a stop due to the traffic in front of them, and they were rear-ended, causing an ugly crash.
Guillermo was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center where he died two days later.
“He was so full of life, and just to see him like that was very very hard,” his grandmother Amy Silveria said.
Amy and her family are still struggling with the loss one week later. Guillermo’s mom has been staying with Amy for comfort.
Washington State Patrol said the 66-year-old driver who hit the Silverias’ car was at fault, but she was not impaired or on the phone. She told troopers she was distracted by a dump truck that was waiting to turn onto the highway.
“We just really want to stress to people to slow down, be patient and really be cognizant of your route, the conditions of the weather, the conditions of the roadway, and look further ahead so you can avoid these types of things,” Trooper Rick Johnson said.
State Patrol doesn’t expect criminal charges to be filed in this case, though the driver who caused the crash could face a citation and a fine, most likely for $187.
“I think this was just a horrible horrible accident,” Amy Silveria said. “That’s why I’m going to take on this whole distracted driving thing.”
The loving grandmother hopes the story of Guillermo’s death saves at least one life.
“I just really want people to stop and think when they get into their cars,” she said. “And if they don’t have children of their own, to think of Guillermo and this situation, and slow down and pay attention.”
Guillermo’s organs were donated. His heart now beats inside another child.
The family is holding a memorial at Summit Church in Enumclaw at noon next Saturday. All are welcome.
