Rainier ,OR : Columbia County deputy involved in crash along Highway 30 on Friday evening, June 26th 2015
A Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in a head-on crash on Highway 30 near Rainier on Friday evening that resulted in his SUV hanging over an embankment, according to Oregon State Police.
The deputy is Troy Caldwell. He was released from the hospital in Longview Friday night and is doing OK.
Sgt. Kyle Hove said the deputy’s car was secured by a fire truck to keep it from continuing down the embankment.
Caldwell is being credited for acting quickly and swerving to avoid the head-on crash that had moved into his lane.
Hove said it appeared to be a three-vehicle crash. The deputy was the only person in his car.
The crash site was three miles west of the former Trojan nuclear power plant.
