Olathe,KA : Mother on phone with daughter during rollover crash on April, wednesday 3rd 2017

A mother in Kansas experienced a nightmare when her daughter was involved in a rollover car crash while the two were on the phone together.

Gwyneth Allen and her two friends from dance, Sydney Summers and Tierney Carley, were leaving a baseball game April 28 and trying to get on the highway when another car T-boned them.

"Hearing the sound of, like, the boom of the crash, that was probably the most terrifying thing I've ever heard in my life," Sydney said.

The car rolled twice and landed upside down with all three girls still inside. The windshield was caved in.

Gwyneth, a passenger in the car, was on the phone with her mom Toby Allen the whole time.

“She was screaming, 'Oh, my god, Mom. Oh, my god. Oh, my god,'" Toby Allen said.

The mother says all she felt at the time was pure terror.

“Because you could hear the terror in the girls' screams because they were shrieking, it was just the scariest thing I've ever heard,” Toby Allen said.

Sydney and Tierney managed to crawl out of the crash car, but Gwyneth’s door wouldn’t open.

"I remember like yelling, ‘Make sure you get Gwyn out. Make sure you get her out,’” Tierney said.

Then, bystander Larry Rutledge came to the girls’ rescue.

“I’ve got two kids, and I know if they were in an accident and I was on the phone with them and not able to be there, how scary that would be,” Rutledge said.

The good Samaritan used Gwyneth’s phone to tell her mother the girl would be fine and that he would call her right back.

“I was yelling. I said, ‘Please don’t hang up. Please don’t hang up,’” Toby Allen said.

Rutledge did hang up but only long enough to help Gwyneth.

"He was like, ‘I'm going to count to three and then I’m going to unbuckle it,' and then I fell on, like, a blanket," Gwyneth said.

In a Facebook post, Toby Allen said her daughter and Rutledge called right back after the two made their way out of the car.

"There's no words that could ever explain how thankful that all of us are. He was an angel for us,” Toby Allen said.

Rutledge stressed he was one of many people who stopped to comfort and assist the girls until paramedics arrived. He’s now joining the girls’ families in calling for the person responsible to come forward.

The driver of the car who hit the girls reportedly stopped after the accident but fled before police arrived, according to Toby Allen’s Facebook post.

The girls are all healing from bruised ribs and concussions, still afraid of driving and even riding in cars at times. Toby Allen says on Facebook her daughter didn’t even want to get in a car the day after the accident.

“If you look at the pictures, it’s a miracle that we basically walked away unharmed,” Sydney said.
