Christian County, IL : 2 dead in Christian County crash on Tuesday 23rd October 2018

An elderly man from Auburn was killed in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon in Christian County, Illinois State Police said.

Police said the crash happened at 1:37 p.m. at the intersection of Illinois 51 and County Road 6 in Assumption. A Buick driven by an 84-year-old woman was westbound on County Road 6 and a Dodge Avenger driven by John Brophy, 64, of Rankin, was southbound on Illinois 51. Police said the Buick entered the intersection and was hit by Brophy’s vehicle.

The woman driving the Buick and her 87-year-old male passenger were taken to hospitals. The male passenger died. Their names were being withheld Wednesday night, pending notification of their families.

Police said the accident is still under investigation.
