Midvale, UT : Two people wanted in connection with a string of burglaries across the Salt Lake Valley injured after crashing a stolen vehicle into a parked flat-bed truck on Thursday, Sep 24, 2015

Two people wanted in connection with a string of burglaries across the Salt Lake Valley were hospitalized Thursday after crashing a stolen vehicle into a parked flat-bed truck.

About 8:30 a.m., officers were called to 6915 S. 900 East where a Honda CRV drifted off the road, and "for whatever reason, smacked into the back of a flat-bed truck that was parked along the side of the road doing construction," Unified Police Sgt. Jared Richardson said.

"They weren't being chased, they weren't being followed. We don't know why they swerved over and crashed into this car," he said.

The female passenger, in her early 30s, was taken to a local hospital in extremely critical condition with extensive injuries, he said. The driver, a man in his mid-30s, was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.

The names of the two were not immediately released Thursday. But Richardson said the driver is a convicted felon who had warrants out for his arrest for weapons violations in Montana and Salt Lake County.

The car the man hit, a Honda CRV, was reported stolen out of Millcreek earlier in the day. A firearm was also found in the vehicle, he said.

Multiple agencies across the valley had also been looking for both the man and woman in connection with a string of burglaries, according to Richardson.

Investigators were also looking at whether drug use may have contributed to Thursday's crash. Speed was not believed to be a factor.
