Ocala,FL : Woman arrested on DUI after crash on January, Monday 15th 2018
A woman whose vehicle slammed into the back of another on U.S. 41 was arrested on DUI-related charges early Monday morning.
Megan Leigh Sain, 22 of Ocala, was arrested on charges of DUI, two counts of DUI with property damage/personal injury, and DUI with serious bodily injury. She was released from jail at 8:20 p.m. Monday on $15,000 bond.
The driver of the second vehicle told Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Christopher Delrusso that she was traveling south on U.S. 41 when a vehicle struck the back of hers, veered into the northbound travel lane and finally stopped on the grassy west shoulder.
The woman said she stopped her vehicle to check on the occupants of the one that hit her from behind, according to an arrest report. She said the driver of the vehicle told her she had been drinking and did not want her to call the police.
In his report, Delrusso said he found an open Bud Light container under the driver’s side.
Sain told the trooper that she was driving, her sister was in the vehicle and she had been drinking at a pub on County Road 484, according to the report. Sain agreed to do a field sobriety exercise, which she failed.
She told the trooper she had been driving behind the first vehicle, which braked in front of her. Sain said she was unable to stop in time.
Delrusso noted in his report nearly five hours after the crash, which occurred around 1:30 a.m., breath tests recorded Sain’s blood alcohol content at .117 and .113. The level at which drivers are presumed to be drunk is .08.
