North Salt Lake, UT : Race on I-215 ends in fiery crash Friday night on July 18, 2014

A race between two cars on I-215 ended in a fiery crash Friday night.

Witnesses told the Utah Highway Patrol that a Mitsubishi Eclipse was headed west and racing another car about 8 p.m. when the driver lost control and the car hit a cement barrier. The Eclipse bounced off the barrier and hit another car, which burst into flames near Redwood Road.

The driver of the Eclipse was taken to the hospital complaining of shoulder pain.

Westbound I-215 was closed while crews responded to the scene and put out the fire. It was re-opened about 8:30 p.m., but drivers were urged to be cautious in the area.

Police do not believe the driver of the Eclipse was impaired.
