Marblehead, MA: Car crashes into office building on Thursday, JUly 23rd 2015
Marblehead, Massachusetts
Employees at a small real estate office in Marblehead, a suburb north of Boston, were going about their work yesterday when the day came to a crashing halt.A car drove not just into the side wall, but all the way through to the back wall.“It was like a train-wreck,” said Lise Danforth, an agent at Coldwell Banker, which is located in a strip mall. “We thought it was an earthquake but turned around and saw it was a car.”The car drove through what was the office conference room, taking out two walls and pushing all the furniture in its path up against the opposite side of the building. No one in the office was hurt, as according to Danforth. Everyone was in the back office at the time, which was unaffected by the incident. But Danforth said the fact no one was hurt was simply a matter of fortunate timing. “The car ended up in the space where the desk duty agent is,” said Danforth. “It happened right at a shift change. Within minutes it would have made a difference.”Likewise, neither the driver, whom Marblehead Fire Captain Mike Porter said was an elderly woman, nor her passenger, the woman’s husband, were injured in the accident. “The fact that no one got hurt is amazing,” said Porter.Bill Willis, an agent at the office, said he was the first one to reach the car after it crashed. He got the woman to calm down and instructed her to put the car in park and turn off the ignition. Then he and the other employees on the scene moved furniture out of the way and helped both her and her husband, who had a walker in the car trunk, out of the car and around the building to a clear area, where they were eventually evaluated by EMTs.
