Aspinwall, PA : Motorcyclist in critical condition after bike collided with a sport utility vehicle on Interstate 70 in South Huntingdon on Monday October 17th 2016
A Mt. Pleasant motorcyclist was reported in critical condition in a Pittsburgh hospital Monday after his bike collided with a sport utility vehicle a day earlier along Interstate 70 in South Huntingdon.
Stephen G. Murphy, 62, was airlifted to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital following the crash at 2:50 p.m. Sunday that closed the westbound lanes of the highway for about an hour at the West Newton interchange.
State police at Belle Vernon said that Murphy was attempting to enter the highway from Route 31 when his 1997 Suzuki motorcycle collided with a SUV traveling west on the roadway.
Police said the crash caused Murphy, who was wearing a helmet, to lose control of his motorcycle and hit the Jersey barrier. The driver of the SUV, David Magyor of Hunker, was not injured.
Police said the accident remains under investigation.
Murphy was treated at the scene by Rostraver Emergency Medical Service before being taken to the hospital.
