DUMONT DUNES, CA : One dead, one hurt in off-road crash on Tuesday, 20th November 2018
Authorities said one man died and another man was severely injured in an off-road crash early Tuesday morning.
The crash occurred at 1 a.m. in the Dumont Dunes recreation area, a site popular with off-road enthusiasts about 30 miles north of Baker and east of Highway 127. The crash involved two Sacramento men riding a Polaris RZR, an all-terrain vehicle.
Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor behind the crash, CHP officials said.
The crash occurred as the Polaris was driven up a sand dune south of Banshee Hill. Officials said the Polaris sped up towards the top and flew into the air.
The vehicle landed on the back side of the dune and overturned. The driver suffered neck injuries while his passenger, a 40-year-old man, died at the scene, officials said.
