Hazleton, PA : A one-vehicle crash on Highland Road in Foster Twp on Friday, July 14, 2017

A 43-year-old Freeland man died shortly after midnight Friday in a one-vehicle crash on Highland Road in Foster Twp.

George Thomas Durange Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene by Luzerne County Deputy Coroner Gerald Jones, according to state police at Hazleton.

Durange was driving a pickup truck south on Highland Road east of Bridge Avenue when the vehicle left the roadway, striking a tree, police said. He was ejected from the vehicle through the driver’s side door on impact.

The pickup truck, which sustained heavy, disabling damage to its front and driver’s side, came to rest at the side of the road.

State police said the investigation is ongoing.

They were assisted at the scene by Butler Twp. police, Freeland and American Patient Transport Systems ambulances, and Fearnots Fire Company of Foster Twp.
