Festus, MO : Bonne Terre man dead in single-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 near Festus Monday, July 18, 2016

One person died in a single-car crash on Interstate 55 near Festus Monday.

The victim was identified as Shawn M. Myers, 28, of Bonne Terre. He was travelling southbound on I-55 and crashed at Highway 67 at about 1:20 p.m., according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

He had been making a right turn onto 67, and the car began to skid and went off the road. It crashed into a rock embankment and then returned to the road on its roof. Myers was the only person in the car. He was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The interstate was closed to clear debris. It was cleared by 3:15 p.m., according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.
