A 17-year-old boy has died and another teen will be charged with motor vehicle homicide as the result of a Tuesday afternoon car crash, police announced Saturday
Jacob Westbury, of Millbury, passed away Friday at the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester due to injuries sustained in the crash, police said, the Milford Daily News reported.
The crash occurred at around 2:20 p.m. on Quaker Street, near the Upton town line. According to police, Westbury was in the rear passenger seat of a 2001 Nissan Altima. The car, police said, was traveling south when it slowed for a school bus in the opposite lane.
A 2013 Ford F350, driven by a 17-year-old juvenile, then struck the Nissan from behind. Police announced Saturday that the juvenile will be charged with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, operating to endanger, speeding and a junior operator license violation.
As a result of the crash, police said, Westbury was trapped in the vehicle and emergency personnel had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate him.
