LONG VALLEY, SD : One person died in a two-vehicle crash in Bennett County on Friday, 30th March 2018

One person died Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Bennett County, according to authorities.

A news release from the South Dakota Highway Patrol says the names of the person who died and the other two people involved in the crash are not being released, pending notification of family members.

According to the Highway Patrol, just before 9 a.m. Friday a 1996 Kenworth semi-truck and trailer was southbound on South Dakota Highway 73 about 15 miles south of Long Valley. As it prepared to make a right turn into a field, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup, which also was southbound, struck the rear of the trailer.

The pickup’s driver, a 27-year-old male, had to be extricated and was taken to the Bennett County hospital where he was later pronounced dead. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to Highway Patrol.
