Lafayette ,CA : One killed, one injured when trucks collide on Thursday afternoon ,July 30th 2015
An 81-year-old Hercules man was killed and another man injured Thursday afternoon when their trucks collided at an intersection, the California Highway Patrol said.
A woman whose car was hit by one of the trucks after the collision was not injured.
The dead man was identified Friday by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as Dongwhan Oh.
The crash happened about 2:54 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Taylor Boulevard and Withers Avenue.
Authorities said Oh was driving a 1967 pickup truck going northbound on Taylor.
He was attempting to turn onto the westbound lanes of Withers when he collided with a 2006 Dodge pickup driven by a 19-year-old Pleasant Hill man who was going southbound on Taylor and was turning onto Withers, CHP Officer John Fransen said.
The impact caused the Dodge to overturn but the driver suffered only moderate injuries.
After being hit by the Dodge, the Chevrolet truck struck a 2007 Toyota driven by a 74-year-old Lafayette woman who was stopped for a red light at the intersection, Fransen said. She was not hurt.
The Hercules man was pronounced dead at the scene.
All three drivers were wearing seat belts.
