Rehoboth, DE : Lewes man charged with third DUI after Long Neck crash on Tuesday, March 7th 2017
A Lewes man faces a third driving under the influence charge after crashing into a Long Neck area utility pole March 7 before fleeing.
Dale Thaxton, 59, was driving a 2011 Kia Sorento on Camp Arrowhead Road in the area of Angola Road at 3 p.m. when he drove off the roadway and struck a utility pole causing damage to the pole and his vehicle, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.
Thaxton was able to continue driving and drove directly at a trooper who was in the roadway trying to stop Thaxton, Fournier said. The trooper moved out of the way and reentered his marked patrol vehicle with emergency lights activated to pursue Thaxton. Thaxton drove to his home in the 22000 block of Cypress Drive where he parked his car in the driveway and was walking to his front door when the trooper tried to arrest him, Fournier said. A struggle continued inside Thaxton’s home where he was subdued by Taser.
Thaxton was transported Beebe Healthcare where he was treated for minor injuries he sustained in the collision and released. He was then taken to Troop 7 where he was charged with third offense driving under the influence of alcohol (two previous convictions; 11/21/90 and 04/21/97), disregarding a police officer's signal, leaving the scene of a property damage collision, first-degree reckless endangering, resisting arrest with force, offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, and various other traffic and criminal related offenses. He was arraigned at Justice Peace 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $13,353 secured bond.
