CHURCHVILLE, VA : Two 89-year-olds die in Churchville crash on Tuesday, December, 12th 2017
Two elderly people were killed Tuesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in the 2300 block of Hankey Mountain Highway, Virginia State Police said.
Michael G. Salinger, 89, of West Augusta – and passenger Susanne O. Salinger, 89, of West Augusta died at the scene. They were both wearing seatbelts, said police.
Michael Salinger, driver of the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, lost control of the vehicle and it went down a steep embankment, striking a tree, according to police investigating the crash.
The crash took place about four miles outside of Churchville at approximately 2:30 p.m. It was the county's second double-fatality in just more than two weeks. On Nov. 26, two people were killed on U.S. 340 in Crimora following a head-on collision.

Churchville Fire-Rescue responded to the scene Tuesday, along with Mount Solon Volunteer Fire & Rescue and the Augusta County Fire Department.
Virginia State Police are expected to release additional information about the crash later on Tuesday.
