Hooksett ,NH : Man in wheelchair killed in crash on Monday, July 6th 2015

A man in a motorized wheelchair was killed Monday when he was struck by a pickup truck on Route 3A in Hooksett, police said.

Police said the man, identified as 61-year-old Earl Carter, was riding north with the flow of traffic toward the Hooksett rest area when a pickup truck veered toward him. Carter was taken to a hospital, where he later died, police said.

The truck was driven by David Hawes, 45, of East Andover.

"At this time, it appears the vehicle may have drifted over the white line and hit the motorized vehicle," Sgt. Kristofer Dupuis said. "It appears to be a very serious accident and a very tragic accident."

Police said the driver has been cooperative. Investigators are trying to determine if speed, alcohol, drugs or distractions were factors in the crash.
