Waseca, MN : Woman killed in Friday morning around 10:45 a.m.crash Highway 14 July 18th 2014.
A 66-year-old Waseca woman died in a fatal crash Friday morning on Old Hwy. 14 near the intersection of 95th Street.The accident, which occurred around 10:45 a.m., closed the highway for about three hours while investigators worked to clear the scene.
The crash involved a passenger car driven by Sharon Weckwerth, who was headed eastbound, and a semi-tractor trailer driven by 61-year-old Randall Mahlman, of Owatonna, going westbound. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles and investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
Mahlman was uninjured in the wreck.Waseca County Sheriff Brad Milbrath said Friday afternoon that it's not yet known what caused the crash.According to her Facebook profile, Weckwerth graduated in 1966 from Monticello High School in Monticello, Iowa, and has two daughters and a son. She was employed at the Waseca Wal-Mart.
An investigation is being conducted by the Minnesota State Patrol, according to a press release by the Waseca County Sheriff's Department. Responding agencies include Waseca Police and Janesville Police departments, Waseca Fire Department, North Ambulance, Waseca County Highway Department and Minnesota Department of Transportation.
