MARINETTE, WI : Local man dies in one-car crash on Shore Drive in the Town of Peshtigo on Sunday, 23rd December 2018

A local man died in a one-vehicle accident Sunday night in the Town of Peshtigo.

The driver, 42-year-old Edward V. Moreno Jr. of the Town of Peshtigo, crashed on County Trunk BB (Shore Drive), just south of Leaf Road, shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday, according to Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve.

A four-door car, traveling north at a high rate of speed, lost control and went off the road to the right and struck a large oak tree, according to the sheriff’s office.

Moreno Jr., who was traveling alone, was pronounced dead at the scene by the deputy coroner of massive head and internal injuries.

Sheriff’s deputies, the Marinette Police Department, Emergency Medical Services and the Town of Peshtigo Fire Department were all dispatched to the scene. County BB/Shore Drive was closed for several hours during the investigation and extrication of the victim, whose name was initially withheld pending notification of his family.

This is the 10th traffic fatality in the county this year.
