Marietta, GA : One person dies in motorcycle crash on Sunday September 11 2016
A recent graduate of McEachern High School died in Sunday morning in a motorcycle accident, according to Cobb police.
Evan M. Carter, 18, of Powder Springs died as a result of his injuries sustained from a motorcycle wreck at the intersection of Bullard Road and Govanett Road in Powder Springs, said Cobb police spokesperson Dana Pierce.
McEachern’s Twitter account tweeted, “Prayers for the family of one of our own class of 2016 Indians who died this morning on his motorcycle...tragic” about 9 p.m. Sunday.
The Twitter account of McEachern’s student section tweeted, “Thoughts and prayers go out to the Carter family and friends, Evan will be dearly missed. #trustinhisplan #tribefamily” about 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
Pierce said Carter was driving a blue 2007 Yamaha R6 motorcycle southbound on Bullard Road at a high rate of speed when he passed a car in a no passing zone. As Carter approached Govanett Road, Charles R. Rowland, Jr., 52, of Powder Springs was attempting to turn left onto northbound Bullard Road in a green 2002 Toyota Camry from McEachern Woods Drive.
Pierce said investigators believe Carter locked his brakes in an attempt to miss the Toyota, which caused the motorcycle to skid into the northbound lane and strike the car.
Rowland was not injured in the collision, Pierce said, and Carter was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital but died of his injuries.
