Anchor Point, AK : Homer man killed in single-car crash near Mile 147 Sterling Highway near Stariski Creek on Wednesday, June 17, 2015

A single-car crash last week killed a Homer man. Alaska State Troopers said Bradley Dickey, 79, died of his injuries at the scene after his 1998 GMC Sierra truck left the road and hit a ditch about 4 p.m. June 17 near Mile 147 Sterling Highway near Stariski Creek.

According to a trooper dispatch, a witness called troopers to make a “report every dangerous driver immediately” complaint that a driver in the truck had left the road and was in the ditch. The truck had been heading south when it left the road. Trooper spokesperson Beth Ipsen said just as the person made the call, the witness saw the truck crash. Dickey was partly thrown out of the truck. Medics responded and attempted to revive Dickey, but after several minutes declared him dead. Next of kin were notified.

Ipsen said troopers do not suspect alcohol was involved. As is routine in fatal car crashes, a blood test was taken, but it will be six to eight weeks before troopers have results. The Alaska State Medical Examiner also requested an autopsy. Ipsen said an investigation is ongoing and it is too early in the investigation to know if any physical condition contributed to the crash or if Dickey had fallen asleep.

Dickey is the widower of Paula Dickey, a well-known watercolor artist who died of ovarian cancer in 2011. The Dickeys had one son, Devon, who preceded them in death. No funeral services for Brad Dickey have yet been set.
