Quincy, IL : Fatal crash on Route 1 on Tuesday, July 4, 2017

Illinois State Police confirm a man died in a 4 p.m. crash on Illinois Route 1 at Wabash County Road 1800 North Tuesday.

A news release from ISP District 19 reports the 54-year-old male operator of a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle, died from injury sustained in the crash an a female passenger, 53, was taken by air ambulance to a regional hospital. Neither name was released Tuesday night.

Police said the preliminary crash investigation shows the motorcycle was northbound on Route 1, passing multiple vehicles. While in the southbound lane passing other vehicles, another vehicle approached and stopped at the stop sign on Wabash County Road 1800 North at Route 1. The Harley operator applied brakes and laid the bike over on its side.

An ISP accident reconstructionist was assigned to assist with the investigation. Also responding were Wabash County Sheriff’s Department, Mount Carmel Fire Department, Allendale Fire Department, and the Wabash General Hospital Ambulance Service. The Wabash County Coroner’s Office is also involved with the investigation.
