NIMISILLEN TWP, OH : A Portage County woman was killed on Wednesday, June 14, 2017

A Portage County woman was killed when a tractor-trailer pulled out in front of the car she was driving Wednesday morning.

Bethany Kahler, 26, of Mogadore, was driving north on S.R. 44 approaching the intersection with U.S. Route 62 about 8 a.m. when a tractor-trailer driven by a 64-year-old Eastlake man pulled out from the ramp in an attempt to go south toward Louisville, said Sgt. Pamela Gowan of the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Canton post.

The vehicles collided and the car went under the trailer, killing Kahler, Gowan said, adding that Kahler was pronounced dead at the scene by an investigator with the Stark County Coroner’s Office.

The truck driver, whose vehicle had been hauling paper, was not injured, she said.

The investigation is continuing, but “it appears that the tractor-trailer failed to yield the right-of-way,” Gowan said.

The crash remained under investigation later Wednesday. Results of the investigation were expected to be turned over to the Stark County Prosecutor’s Office.

The crash also closed S.R. 44 until shortly after noon as investigators continued their investigation and the roadway could be cleared.
