Cheboygan, MI : 22-year-old Indian River man killed in accident on Sunday, January 1st 2017

A 22-year-old Indian River man was killed in an accident when he lost control of his vehicle in the snowy conditions New Year's Eve. Cheboygan County Sheriff Dale Clarmont said his department was dispatched to South Straits Highway about one-quarter mile south of Allen Creek Road for a two car accident at 4:49 p.m. New Year's Eve. "Upon arrival, the Wolverine Fire Department and Cheboygan Life Support System were on scene, tending to victims," said Clarmont. The investigation revealed that Tyler Hoobler was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Corsica northbound on South Straits Highway when he lost control, crossed the centerline into the path of a 2012 Ford F-150 pickup. The driver of the pickup, 27-year-old Veronica Gough of Mackinac Island was traveling southbound. Hoobler was pronounced dead at the scene. Gough had minor injuries and sought her own treatment. Two adult passengers with Gough were not injured in the accident. All occupants in the vehicles were wearing seat belts. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. The accident remains under investigation. The Emmet County Sheriffs Department Accident Reconstruction Team and the Michigan State Police also assisted at the scene.
