Spokane, MO : Nine students injured after a school bus accident on Highway 65 in Christian County on Monday morning, May 23, 2016
Nine students are hurt, one of them seriously, after a school bus accident in Christian County.
It happened around 7:30 Monday morning at an intersection on Highway 65, just north of Saddlebrooke.
Troopers with the Missouri Highway Patrol say a man driving a school bus for Spokane pulled out in front of a pickup truck that was traveling down Highway 65.
The truck his the back end of the bus, causing extensive damage to both vehicles.
Nine students, ranging five- to eighteen-years-old, were taken to the hospital with minor to serious injures.
Spokane Superintendent, Daryl Bernskoetter, says he was in disbelief when he heard about the accident.
“There's a thousand things going through your mind,” Bernskoetter said, “[We] just wanted to give those kids a sense of safety, give them someone familiar to be around then. So we had some office personal, counselors and principals there also to help comfort those students."
The students injures are not believed to be life-threatening.
The driver of the pickup was also taken to the hospital with severe injuries.
