Baton Rouge, LA : Nine children injured after car collides with school bus on North 27th Street near Gayosa Street on Thursday morning, Oct 1, 2015

Nine children were taken to the hospital, according to witnesses, after a hit and run crash involving a school bus Thursday morning.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said the crash happened on North 27th Street near Gayosa Street shortly after 8 a.m. when a car failed to stop at a stop sign.

Investigators said the driver of the car got out and ran away. The driver's name has not been released.

The East Baton Rouge Parish School System reported the bus was headed to Park Elementary. Eight children were reportedly taken to the hospital reportedly all suffered minor injuries in the wreck.

According to investigators, there were 19 students on the bus at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
