Vandalia, OH : Man and child killed in multi-vehicle crash on I-75 Friday night, October 31, 2014

Two people were killed Friday night in a mult-vehicle accident on Interstate 75, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol investigators. The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has confirmed Sherod Mayo, 44, and Jeremiah Grimes, 5, were killed in that crash. Both were from Warren, Michigan. The crash happened around 9:15 p.m. near milepost 64. Several tractor-trailers and other vehicles were involved in the accident. Troopers said multiple vehicles crashed after attempting to avoid a disabled vehicle. According to witnesses, the disabled vehicle was previously involved in a separate crash. Brian Baker was driving on I-75 and witnessed the accident. “The only thing I saw were two disabled vehicles in the southbound lanes and the oncoming traffic did not see any of the vehicles because they were disabled – no lights on. And once the impact of one vehicle sent another one into the path of a semi and it just transpired from there,” was how Baker described the scene. Five other victims were taken to area hospitals for treatment. Their injuries were said to be non life-threatening. The accident shut down the southbound lanes near Northwoods Boulevard for more than four hours, stopping traffic back to Tipp City. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
