Crystal Lake, IL : Wonder Lake-area crash kills 65-year-old Huntley man on Monday, November 14th 2016
A 65-year-old Huntley man was pronounced dead Monday after his vehicle overturned off the roadway in unincorporated Wonder Lake, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
The McHenry County Coroner's Office identified the man as Frank S. Gianfortune. An autopsy completed Monday afternoon revealed he died from blunt force injuries to his head, chest and abdomen, according to a news release from the coroner's office.
Around 1:51 a.m., Gianfortune was driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler south in the 6400 block of Greenwood Road when his vehicle struck a culvert and overturned, according to the sheriff's office.
Gianfortune was treated at the scene by sheriff’s personnel and the Woodstock Fire Protection District, but he eventually was pronounced dead at the scene because of injuries from the crash.
A preliminary investigation indicates Gianfortune was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.
Both front air bags deployed, and no other passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, the sheriff's office said.
The cause of the crash still is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
