Omaha, NE : A 23-year-old motorist was seriously injured in midtown Omaha on Monday, January, 15th 2018
A 23-year-old motorist was seriously injured early Monday in a fiery, one-vehicle rollover in midtown Omaha.
The accident, which left the vehicle on its top in the Bruegger’s Bagels parking lot on the south side of Dodge Street at 41st Street, occurred about 3:25 a.m., police said.
Omahan Tyler Ingram, who was the only person in the 2009 Nissan Altima, was pinned in the vehicle, according to reports to Douglas County 911 dispatchers. The vehicle caught fire, reports to dispatchers also said.
Police said Ingram was traveling east on Dodge Street when the Altima left the roadway. The vehicle struck and uprooted a light pole in the Bruegger’s lot, with the Altima rolling onto its roof, police said.
Ingram, who suffered a broken leg, was cited on suspicion of reckless driving and driving under the influence, police said.
He was taken just a few blocks from the crash scene to the Nebraska Medical Center with what rescue squad personnel considered critical injuries. He was listed in good condition at the hospital Monday afternoon.
Eastbound Dodge Street was closed at 41st Street while authorities investigated. The roadway was reopened about 90 minutes after the crash.
