Somerton, AZ : One person was killed in a two-vehicle rear-end collision at 415 W. Main Street On Wednesday, August 17th, 2016
On Wednesday afternoon the Somerton/Cocopah Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle rear-end collision at Main Street.
At approximately 2:21 p.m. the fire department responded to the collision at 415 W. Main Street in Somerton. A mid-sized sedan and older model Jeep sport utility vehicle were involved, according to a SCFD news release.
There was one occupant in each of the two vehicles with the driver of the sedan, who was rear-ended, complaining of neck and head pain and requesting to be transported to the hospital.
According to the release it is unknown at this time how the accident occurred, but SCFD said that the Jeep for unknown reasons failed to stop in time and struck the rear of the silver sedan.
The department said that it struck the sedan with enough force to cause significant damage to the entire rear of the vehicle. It was stated in the release that the driver of the sedan struck his face against the steering wheel,
injuring his mouth.
SCFD paramedics took cervical spine precautions, they said, and transported the patient to Yuma Regional Medical Center in normal traffic.
Somerton Police Department provided traffic control and is investigating the incident.
