A Pittsfield man died Sunday after crashing his motorcycle on Route 7, officials said on Monday.

Sean Depson, 40, was riding northbound with oAthers around 12:17 p.m. when he lost control of his bike and struck a guardrail about a half-mile south of Waubeeka Golf Links, according to the Berkshire District Attorney's Office.

A Life Flight call was initiated, but Depson was ultimately transported by Northern Berkshire EMS to Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, where he died of his injuries at 2:22 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing, but preliminary evidence indicates that speed is likely a factor in the crash.
