Hunchinson, KS : 20-year-old man died after crash a stolen Cox Communications truck into a bridge guard rail in Harvey County early Monday morning, Oct 12, 2015

A 20-year-old McPherson man driving a Cox Communications truck stolen in Hutchinson died after the vehicle hit a bridge guard rail early Monday morning in Harvey County, officials said.

The Cox truck was going east in the 19000 block of Dutch Avenue when the driver lost control. The vehicle hit the guard rail, which “impaled the truck,” causing it to flip over and go into Sand Creek, the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. The driver died at the scene.

Investigators determined that the Cox truck had been stolen and that the driver was not a Cox employee, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Video shows that the struck was stolen shortly before 4 a.m. Monday from a Cox Communications parking lot in Hutchinson, said company spokesman Dennis Clary.

Authorities weren’t disclosing the name of the 20-year-old McPherson man until his family could be notified.

Dutch Avenue has been reopened to traffic, and the guard rail and part of bridge will be repaired, the office said.
