Hamilton County, OH : Teen killed after being ejected from pickup in crash on U.S. 50 in Whitewater Township on Sunday night, August 7, 2016

A Cincinnati teen was killed Sunday night, after she was ejected from a pickup during a violent crash that officials said was likely caused by excessive speed and alcohol.

Kaylee Merschbach, 18, was a front seat passenger in the 2005 Dodge Ram. The pickup was heading west on U.S. 50 in Whitewater Township when officials say the driver, 20-year-old Tristin Stapleton, "failed to maintain control of his truck, causing it to" drive off the roadway.

Stapleton, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, tried to regain control of the pickup but "overcorrected, causing his truck to rotate counter-clockwise." The pickup then drove off the other side of the road and struck the utility pole. It then went into a ditch, the news release said, "which then launched (the) truck through the air into a wooded area."

Merschbach was ejected from the pickup, the news release said. The driver and a rear seat passenger, 19-year-old Veronica Jacobs, were both seriously injured. None of the pickup's occupants were wearing seat belts, the news release said.

Speed and alcohol are believed to have contributed to the crash.

The crash happened at about 9:10 p.m. and closed U.S. 50 in Whitewater Township between Lawrenceburg and State Line roads for several hours.
