Danville fatal crash victim identified near Vermilion Illinois

A man originally from Champaign County was killed in a three-vehicle accident on Interstate 74 near Danville Friday evening.

Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson identified the man as Steven C. Cosand, 44, of Indianapolis, but originally from Rantoul.Illinois State Police at Pesotum said the crash happened just east of Danville between Lynch Road and Bowman Avenue a minute before 6 p.m.

Police said Mr. Cosand was driving a Jeep Cherokee east when it went in the median and overturned but came to rest in the westbound lanes.

A westbound semitrailer tractor truck driven by Eddie Bonds, 61, of Gibson City, then struck the Jeep, causing the Jeep to spin around. Mr. Cosand was thrown from the Jeep in the process.

Another westbound car driven by Beverly Beehtold, 85, of Westville, then drove through the debris, damaging her car, which came to rest on the westbound left shoulder. Neither Bonds nor Beehtold were hurt, police said.
