Pasadena, CA : Eight people hurt in 210 Freeway crash in Pasadena Thursday on July 10, 2014
Eight people were injured Thursday when a tractor trailer hauling half a mobile home triggered a multiple vehicle crash on the westbound 210 Freeway near Hill Avenue, officials said.
One of the vehicles involved was a small bus carrying four passengers. Three of them have disabilities and use wheelchairs.
The 9:43 a.m. crash also led to the closure of three lanes.
California Highway Patrol Sgt. Ernie Amaya said traffic was stopped or stopping on the freeway when the big rig failed to do so and rear-ended a small bus.
Amaya said the bus was pushed into a Corolla which then hit a Camry. The Camry struck a Mazda.
The Mazda appears to have hit a silver sport utility vehicle in front of it, Amaya added.
Eight people sustained minor to moderate injuries and were taken to three hospitals — Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, Glendale Adventist Medical Center and Methodist Hospital of Southern California in Arcadia.
CHP Officer Ken Enger said one of the bus passengers was bleeding from the head. He described the man’s injuries as moderate to major.
Firefighters cut the side of the bus to get the passengers in wheelchairs out, according to Lisa Derderian, spokeswoman for the Pasadena Fire Department.
She said most of their injuries appear to be minor.
“A few were not able to communicate. They needed to go to the hospital for further evaluation,” she said.
An elderly couple in the Corolla were injured. Amaya said the driver had cuts while the passenger complained of pain.
One person from the Camry and one person from the Mazda complained of pain, he added.
The driver of the tractor trailer wasn’t injured.
